FileMaker Pro upgrade issues
#1
A client has a FileMaker Pro 7 solution and needs to buy a new machine. ( his 17" MacBook Pro was a hurricane causality) obviously fmp 7 isn't going to run on 10.7+.

He has a ppc Mac mini that acts as a server, sharing the documents over the network.

Can I just upgrade the new client machine to fmp 11? Looks like fmp 7 - 11 files are compatible. Fmp 12 is ruled out.

Yes, FM Pro 7 to FM Pro 11v4 is a good option.
It has full backward compatibility with FM Pro 7 so no need to convert the files.

Be sure to apply the free update to 11v4.

Looks like the solution is to buy two v12 licenses for $299 and then ask for downgraded media. thats not too bad.

thanks for verifying my plan.

I recommend to buy one license for FileMaker Pro 12 and get the other one free using the holiday special they just started.

That may interfere with you getting a downgrade though.

looks like it takes an extra step but it should be eligible.
