Can You Backup the Time Machine Server in OSX Server?
#1
So I've got 2 Apple XServe machines that have been in use for several years. I'm thinking of using the Time Machine Server on one of them to offer backup services to the network. Anybody use this on OSX Server?

My main question is how do I backup the Time Machine backup?

I'm currently using a daily backup routine, using SuperDuper on the workstations to backup to a shared folder on the server. Then using a rotating set of 6 drives for off-site storage. One is on the server depending on what day it is, all the others are out of the building. Can something similar work with the Time Machine service in OSX Server? Backup the Time Machine partion/drive everyday so it can be offsite?

I've searched the Google, but couldn't really find anybody that does what I'm hoping to do.

Yes.

I clone the data volume to another drive.

Yikes! Complicated... Sounds like you might benefit from a simple remote backup or cloud backup.

Your networked TM backups will be made to image files in a folder on your target-drive.

Files.

In a folder.

Nobody's writing about it because it's so easy that there's nothing to complain about or brag about. Make your scheduled clone/backup. Do or do not take a copy off-site. You're overthinking it.

Not folding as much, eh? You may want to update the folding client to v7. Unfortunately v7 doesn't seem to work on core duo machines.

Nope, bottomed out about a week ago, I guess after most of the v6 work units dried up.

Oh well...
