I have not looked carefully at the robots.
Here is a robot thread at a forum that has some good expertise--though no where near as sophisticated as MRF!
There seem to be a lot of partisans, but I have not seen one machine that is consistently on top.

I've only had the Polaris 360, so I don't know anything about the robotic cleaners, sorry.

I have a Water Tech Blue Sapphire which is a self contained, robotic cleaner. It has a 60 foot power cord and contains its own filter bag, does not use your pool filter system at all. I got it at Woot about a year and a half ago. I am very pleased with it, but Amazon has it for $750. I paid $499 at Woot. I have been able to find some parts for it, when I need to go down that road.
Good luck on your venture!

See, this is why, if I were to install a swimming pool, I'd go with salt instead of chlorine. Then I'd load it with shrimp, starfish, and sea lice. Just toss in a raw chicken every couple days to keep them fed and they'll be there to take care of business when a pet or raccoon accidentally drowns.

I recently bought a $130 rebuild kit from poolplaza.com for our Polaris 340. Consisted of new belts, wheels, and and hardware. Not too difficult to rebuild except that some parts did not fit properly. They made it right, but I had to wait a while to get them from the factory.
After I opened the Polais up, I discovered that it had "eaten" a small rock that was interfering with its operation. However it did need the rebuild.

Well our pool guy (yes, we have a pool guy) doesn't feel comfortable rebuilding the Polaris, so I may check with my handyman to see if he can do it. If so, I may just go for the rebuild kit.
If not, then I don't see any reason to pay $300 at the local pool shop to fix it. I'd rather just buy new for $350, thanks to the links you all provided.

Since I had the 280 that means I have the booster pump. So it wouldn't make sense to buy the 360 since that doesn't use the booster which would just sit unused, correct?
Sounds like I should just go for another 280 or maybe the 380 (which does need the booster pump).
Thoughts?

Keep the 280. You really should really just get the tuneup kit and do it yourself. it is easy if you know how to use a screwdriver.
