Is this PC laptop worth upgrading?
#1
I just recieved a Intel Core 2 Duo T5200 / 1.6 GHz Toshiba Satellite a135-s4467. Currently it's rocking 1GB ram and Vista Home Premum. Is it worth upgraging to 4GB and Win 7? It will be used to run Windows only programs, the few that i have.

Definitely. That CPU is 64-bit and a small upgrade in the RAM/OS will make it purr much better and you'll enjoy using it.

I bet it'd run windows XP well without a hardware upgrade.

Upgrade the RAM and processor ONLY. You can get cheap processor upgrade for between $6 - $20. Here for example

Windows Vista was improved with service pack 2. Upgrading the OS to Windows 7 is not worth the cost of the OS. Unless you can get an OEM Toshiba version of Windows 7 that will install without a key.

EDIT: My son had a Toshiba with a Dual Core Celeron processor with Windows 7. I upgraded the processor to the one linked above when the hinges broke. I had to take the computer completely apart to replace them and he installed linux on a separate partition.

there's no good reason to put Vista on there. XP or 7, or linux.

I don't think that processor will work, the chipset only supports 667 fsb.
