iPhone 5 Cases and tempered glass screen protectors???
#1
Just ordered a couple of refurbished iPhone 5's for the wife and myself and need to get a couple of cases fairly quick. For most of the last two years my wife and I have only used this for our iPhone 4's...

... and neither of us have put on a screen protector and both are near mint.

So, which case(s) should I look at that will not make my iPhone 5 bulky? Would prefer something a little nicer this time.

Also, my friend picked up a really nice screen protector through Amazon that is tempered glass... Anyone have any experience with these? My only concern is "removing it" in the future.

Thanks.

i've had the Otterbox Commuter and Defender and the Griffin Survivor for my iP4. great protection but the Defender and Survivor were too bulky and the Commuter was replaced by something similar but with a kickstand. i've grown so fond of the kickstand that that is what i have on my IP5 and it's probably far less protection than i should have.

i'm very much tempted by the current offering from our benevolent Overlords at OWC. low profile but, ifyou believe their promo, great protection. very tempting. damn. i thought i was over my case addiction...

Are iPhone glass protectors really necessary? I used to use them, but I didn't bother with this last iPhone. The gorilla glass seems plenty tough and virtually unscratchable. I really wonder whether a skinny piece of plastic film really would improve break resistance. Also, if a screen protector is necessary, do I need one for my car windshield and eyeglasses?

For your auto glass: Llumar

Windshield glass is laminated and usually not an issue. The referenced film is intended for the other glass. Significantly increases the security of auto glass.

Getting back to iPhones. I've had screen films on all mine until my iPhone 5. I've had the 5 for close to 3 months. No scratches or blemishes. That said, I don't put my phone in the same pocket as my keys.

Got two otterbox defenders for i5 from Amazon (two different sellers). They both had protection screen delamination from the case. Was going to go with the commuter, but I got one for the wifes i4s and the edges of the silicone sometimes fold in. She has no screen on it and it still looks great. The incipio case is very similar and my aunt has that one.

Space,

I don't know about tempered glass but how about a second layer of Gorilla Glass?

I have one of these for my iphone 4S. Great case overall! Expensive as heck but great case. The build quality is rock solid. I doubt I'll have to replace this case until I actually upgrade to an iphone 5 or whatever comes after it. 'course, at that point, I'll probably end up with an Otterbox Defender due to the cost of the Taktik.
