Once again, my world traveling friend is out there trying to make the world a better place. This time she's in Kruger National Park in S Africa doing volunteer work to help protect the Black Rhino, elephants and other endangered creatures.
Through the wonders of modern technology, I've been staying in touch thanks to Skype and her little iPad Mini (which has turned out to be the perfect computing device for her on this trip.)
She's working hard, but has the benefit of going places that regular park visitors are not allowed. Park visitors are not allowed off the road or out of their vehicle at all.
She saw two Black Rhinos today!! EXTREMELY rare animals. Also giraffes, elephants, all manner of birds, but no cats yet. Also, farther south, saw baboons (that are pests like bears in yosemite only FAR more clever - they can learn how to open things just by watching you), and penguins!
Anyway, she finally got enough bandwidth to send some pictures - she bought a canon SX40 for this trip on my rec - she's not a great photographer, but the camera (and subjects) are making her look good!
This isn't a zoo or a safari... this is what one sees wandering away from camp (no one is allowed to be alone out of camp) or while out working...
Shes says that giraffes wander like deer

Baby Zebra butt!

Look at THAT! Wow! She says the plant is Protea - don't know what the bird is...
