cheap ultralight laptop - Samsung Chromebook 11.6''
#1
this has 16GB local storage like the old Dell Mini that people here liked to hack OS X onto...

http://9to5toys.com/2013/08/29/samsung-c...0-shipped/

The official eBay Best Buy storefront is offering the Samsung 11.6-inch Chromebook (refurbed by Geek Squad) for $169.99 shipped. That is a total savings of $80 off the value of the new Chromebook. Of note, refurbished Chromebooks are not eligible for the 100GB of Google Drive space promotion. The Samsung Chromebook provides an 11.6-inch display, Samsung Exynos 5250 Dual Core Processor, 2GB of RAM, USB 3 ports, and HDMI out.

9to5Google reviewed the Chromebook and found it to be perfect for light computing (web browsing, word processing, email, etc).

Amazon reviewers love it too, extending a 4 star rating from close to 3000 entries.

If you don't like Chrome OS you can always install Ubuntu OS, yes?

Does netflix work on it? Last time I looked (admittedly a while back) it didn't, as far as I could tell. I've seen them around (on local campus), and they really look sharp. kj.

Well, it's ARM not x86, so I don't know if they have an Ubuntu ARM build for this particular piece of hardware.

Damn, that's cheap. I bought one (I'm typing on it now) open box for $217 last spring, and I'm quite happy with it. It is what it is--just a browser with a little storage--but for that, it's really quite good. Only feature it really doesn't pan out for is video, anything above, say, 640x480 doesn't play very well. Other than that, it's a great, light, cheap netbook, so long as you don't expect to run Photoshop or something.

Do wish it had iTunes, but other than that...

It does seem like a nice light laptop for taking notes, writing, basic interwebs, etc. Better than those first gen netbooks.

:agree:

I am glad I never spent any money for any netbook nor a pair of Jordache jeans :ban:
