Laboring for Labor Day (yard pix)
#1
We have to keep going on our new property so we had asked some neighbors who were around for the weekend if they would lend a hand as we're running out of time to get our trees and plants in the ground before Winter. We worked the afternoon in 80ยบ and 50% humidity and after we had barbecue and beer for our helpers. But many hands make light work so we got a lot done. Here is the "before" when we bought it last Spring:

The crew at work:

We got the two Cleveland pears planted at the front and weeds pulled and mulched. Three of the eight hornbeams are in and we did some other work like removing some boxelders the had been growing along the fence that previous residents had just cut down but didn't remove the stumps. Over the years the trees were small but I'd swear the stumps came from 50 foot trees!
Here's a bit wider shot from this morning. Along the fence on the left you'll see a bush with some pinkish flowers (it's blending in with a purple leafed plum). It is a Rose of Sharon that has been growing near our house but was getting too big so we decided to move it instead of just cutting it back:

And the wide view:

Today I have to finish staking the trees but shouldn't take too long. I was concerned that I didn't stake them yesterday because last night we had a thunderstorm about 1 AM. It was a very strange storm because it was constant continuous lightning and thunder-there were no FLASH, CRACK, BOOM's, just a continuous flashing and a rumbling din. Then it rained but there was no wind except for about a two minute tree bending blow but then it just stopped... I thought about getting up to shoot some pix but decided the lightning was too worrisome. Very weird weather this year.

Thx for looking.

Reclaiming the land good job DP. It will be interesting to see next spring and summer.
A good mulching might be in order . . . before winter.
Thanks for sharing.

Thx, Rudie. Yes, mulching is on the list.
We also built up the rock wall a bit more. I'll post some pix from the street side when I shoot some later today.

Landscaping is not my strong suit. I enjoy mowing, like how other
yards look when properly groomed, but can't do it myself.
I appreciate others who have the ability.
Bet it'll look fantastic when done, if your other pics are any indication.

Welcome to Dave's BBQ!

Many have eaten here....

Few have died
