Activity Monitor usually gives a pretty good indication of what is causing beach balls.

not even close.

are you talking about Mail.app or the Entourage/Outlook which come with MS Office 2008/2011?

I do not know that this is true for all Exchange servers.

I run a ML machine and have no trouble connecting to Exchange server at work via Outlook.

I have a colleague that uses iCal/Outlook for at least some sync services.

I had more problems with 10.6 and sync services than 10.8 and Outlook.

As an update

Did the nuke and pave and things are much better. If I try and do too much at once, things bog down again, but it s much improved and usable.

Also, exchange seems to be working fine both in apple mail / ical and outlook. I'm trying to decide which one I"ll end up using.

Thanks for your assistance. The reality is that I probably need to upgrade, but no cash for that right now.

thanks

matt
