Kudos to Sony Customer Service
#1
Got a nice condition Sony Xperia Ion from Amazon Warehouse Deals. Pristine condition except for a scratch marring the bottom plastic cap. Contacted Sony and asked whether there was any warranty remaining and how much would it cost to order a replacement bottom cap. Launch date for this model was mid 2012, so depending on when this particular phone was purchased, could still be in the initial 12 month warranty window. Sony informed me that the warranty was not transferable, no matter any remaining time left. However, they would mail me a replacement cap FREE OF CHARGE anyway!

Sure, the part was probably less than $20 shipped, but I appreciate the gesture anyway. I have purchased four Sony TVs over the last 10 years and a PS2, but I'm hardly a big ticket Sony customer, and no matter my past purchase history, Sony didn't have to go the extra mile on a second hand phone. This was purely a cosmetic problem caused by the past owner's carelessness. Needless to say, I was shocked by the offer, but gladly accepted it.

Again, kudos to Sony.

Maybe they were just unloading unsold inventory.

Maybe, but some of these customers are still under contract with AT&T. The phone came out in June 2012. Seems like they would want inventory for there warrantied and/or contracted customers.

Either way, I'm grateful.
