PP means paypal to me, but if you are submersed in used car shopping, private party would be likely.

If a deposit is non-refundable even if you sell the car to someone else, what's to stop you from taking deposits all day and pocketing them until the cows come home?

Non-refundable deposits are for weddings and the like where the provider may have turned away a subsequent booking or have even started purchasing supplies for your event.

Yes a nonrefundable deposit means that if YOU cancel the transaction you forfeit the deposit, NOT if the seller decides to renege on the deal (which is probably illegal and you might be able to sue for "damages")...
