Olympic Hockey primer: Preliminary round is over, elimination round begins tomorrow...
#1

It's been a great tournament so far...

USA whipped Slovakia today landing them as the 2nd seed in round two. Sweden was 1st overall - they won all 3 prelims without the need for overtime. They were the powerhouse in the softest grouping.

So... Sweden, USA, Canada and Finland get a bye for the second round. The Canada/Finland game today was awesome! Fins forced the mighty Canadians to overtime. A great try, but fell 2-1.

Sweden should waltz into the Medal round (they face the winner of Slovenia/Austria).

Finland likely meets Russia in the next round. This will be a great game if the Fins played like they did today against the Canadians. The Russian team needed overtime to get by Slovakia - it was a close game. It SHOULD NOT have been a close game (USA beat Slovakia 7-1). The Russians are inconsistent. They should easily handle Norway to get to the next round, but who knows...

The medal round should be epic.

Sweden vs the winner of FIN/RUS. Sweden is a powerhouse, but Finland is their natural arch enemy. Russia has the crowd behind them - any variation here will be great.

And The USA should meet Canada - oooh, yeah! Don't count out the Swiss - they beat Canada in 2006 and are a very pesky team, but I suspect Canada will get it together to take care of biz to meet THEIR arch nemesis, the USA.

And don't forget about the women! USA ladies play Sweden in the semi finals tomorrow morning.

Well, I've watched 3 hockey games today - NO MORE GLOWING SCREENS for me...

Not to worry, it is USA all the way. Every winning USA hockey team, male or female, has had a player from Warroad, MN. Both men's and women's teams have a Warroad player this time. When the folks in Warroad want a break from the winter cold, they go to International Falls, MN for the warmer weather.
