Went to see Don Rickles tonight
#1
IIt's 1:46 AM and I'm sitting here drinking rum and coke and eating Taco Bell (AAaack this is nasty stuff!) but it's been a good night.

I've always been a fan of Don Rickles and tonight I saw him at Foxwoods at the MGM Theatre. He's 87 and sharp as a tack although he is recovering from necrotizing fasciitis in his leg. What this meant to his show was that he did it all sitting in a chair because I guess it's still pretty painful to stand.

The show had many video segments of his "great" years with Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin roasts and guesting on Johnny Carson. He sang a few songs, made idiots of a couple of audience members and tossed out dozens of witty jibes all around. Unfortunately he is a comic past his prime and unable to do the physical comedy that made him famous. But if you like Don, then I would recommend seeing his show even though it is somewhat bittersweet.

He's the same age as my horn... I wonder which one has more leaks and loose-fitting parts....

Didn't even know he was still alive. I'm glad he's still performing at his age.

He and my brother-in-law are distantly related. Imagine having "Uncle Donny" come to your Bar Mitzvah. Evidently, at the party, his speech to the Bar Mitzvah boy was a bit embarrassing. As if being a 13yo boy isn't awkward enough.

My aunt has a friend who is friends with Rickles and Bob Newhart. She said Newhart was very boring and Rickles was a sweetheart.
