Thinking in terms of a lawsuit is reasonable considering what took place in the video.

Negligence and liability. Just about every area in the country has leash laws. I've no doubt in my mind the owner violated one and is responsible for the consequences. The police have already taken action.

Physical injuries, non-physical injuries pain and suffering. The child was injured and needed stitches. The wounds are going to hurt and take time to heal and there may be scarring. The child, from what I understand, is autistic.

The long-term consequences of this attack could be all the more traumatic. And, there are the bills for treatment. The family is entitled to be compensated for all of the above by the owner of the dog.

Is there grounds for a lawsuit? Definitely. Will there be one? It depends on a slew of factors. Regardless, thinking in terms of a lawsuit isn't unreasonable.

Yes. It's not like the dog is going to get his boys and come finish the job. Just keep him in the yard. You either love dogs or you don't.

One of the news stories mentioned that the dog escaped while one of the owners was leaving, the dog was not out on it's own due to the negligence of the owners. I think it was the same story that also mentioned that the dog did not like bicycles or small children.

It's still negligence on the part of the owner(s). It doesn't matter if the dog got loose while a member of the family was leaving their home. The dog was off leash and out of control. If the dog didn't like bicycles and/or small children, then it's all the more imperative the owners keep the dog under control.
