Renewal Notices with Parking Violations
#1
Just got a notice of registration renewal and smog check. On it a $59 Parking/Toll (LACMTA) Violation in February of 2013 was listed. I don't ever recall getting ticked for the infraction. If I had should not I receive a ticket placed on my vehicle? Here is what I found on the DMV Ca website: Renewal Notices with Parking Violations
"Renewal notices list up to three parking/toll violation fees and show the remaining number of citations, as well as the total fees due for those citations on the record at the time the notice was printed.
Citation numbers on the renewal notice may have additional numbers or letters before or after the actual citation number."

Not quite sure what to make of this? Anyone has any idea? tia

I forget which place, but there was a thread a few years ago of someone getting a ticket from L.A. area. If I recall correctly, the car with that license place hadn't ever been south of Santa Barbra. They had to contact the issuing authority and get it dismissed. This was before dmv.ca.gov started adding tickets, so I don't know the exact current procedure.

Yes, if you were cited for a parking violation, there should have been a ticket placed on your vehicle.

There well may have been a citation left and for any number of reasons, it was not there when you returned. It's the issuing agency's responsibility to leave notification. After that, you;'re on your own.

Did the renewal notice include any particulars with the citation? Where you where the cite says you were?

There are to possibilities. Your registration renewal was incorrectly assigned the ticket, or from what I infer, your car was cited, and there was no notice when returned.

Unless you were never "there", if the amount is small, I'd pay the ticket. Not worth the time or trouble, for me. If it has accrued interest, I'd contact the issuing agency and tell them about not getting a copy on the car and see if you can get it reduced.

If I was never there, I'd try to convince them of that, some how some way.

Good luck.

At least your renewal notification has a list of demands.
We don't get renewal notifications any more.
Your insurance company might provide the courtesy service.
And demands won't be listed beyond a code which you'll find a key on-line.
You can not pay the demand and fines by mail, phone nor on-line.
Gotta show up in person at the registry and wait in separate lines for separate transactions.

I'd guess your EZPass didn't register going thru a toll someplace.
Or you went thru with the wrong car ?

I searched my online CU for any charge and check paid related to the violation. None found. I even used the Metro ExpressLanes website to look up the violation by violation number, car license plate and code. Nothing came up. I have not idea where this charge coming from. I am really baffled.

Obviously they have more info than you do right now, so even that score and ask for a copy of the original citation. I got a notice in the mail once about a parking violation at a place I'd never been before - turned out the parking police had written down a "P" on the offending vehicle's plate as a "D," which happened to match my vehicle's plate. Easily dismissed.

The question is, how much work do you want to do to avoid a fee that might be legit and doesn't cost you points, etc.

Agreed.

That's it in a nutshell.

No wrong answer here.

If you do pursue this, let us know how it works out.

Paid $2 to get more details on the DMV CA website. Same info I got (or lack thereof) on the DMV CA notice :banghead:

Thinking of going to the local PD at the city hall where I was an IT volunteer.

After hours of being put on hold, callbacks and accessing three websites I finally reached a human being on the other side of the phone. They had a picture of my car in a carpool lane which had become an XpressLane unbeknownst to me at the time. The reason why I got such a large penalty was because I had missed 2 notices of payment. They were sent to an old address, which had been changed over a year ago BUT AAA got it messed up ... now I have learned :banghead:
