Beastie Boys vs. Monster
#1
No, not the Fred Snyder song (honk if you know what I'm referring to :-) ...
http://news.yahoo.com/beastie-boys-award...46449.html
I don't have any strong feelings about the award amounts but I do applaud their stance on refusing to license their songs for commercial products. There are so many times it pains me to hear a great song being destroyed by commercial use..... at the top of the list:
The Who's "Bargain" being used for SUV commercials....
There are also a host of songs that I always assume are commercials even when I've heard them played on the radio a number of times.... way to cheapen your artistic product. At the top of that list is anything by U2 or Coldplay that was plugged to death on iTunes commercials before having a chance to get any airplay...

Two days ago I read they denied Arnold Shwartzen Schwarzen Schwarzeneger the use of the song Sabotage for a movie of his "n order to honor Adam "MCA" Yauch's request that the group never lend their music in commercials or ad campaigns."

Mike D added that while the Beasties could have used Arnold's money -- “We have not been able to tour since MC died. We can’t make new music.” – they're respecting Yauch's wishes regarding the use of the catalog.

I read about this last week, but when I saw "Monster" by itself in your headline, I first thought of monster cables. That would have been an ironic lawsuit.

This. Anytime anyone bites back at Monster (as in Monster Cables) I mentally give them super-powers. I hate Monster and that bullshit.
