What are your passions and hobbies besides owning/using Macs?

[quote ArtP]My problem is my passions/hobbies usually turn into full or part time occupations so I eventually become LESS passionate about them. I get soooo involved in them that they usually end up as a way to make money.

My other two passions/hoobies which have since become occupations are:

Tropical Fish and Aquariums
Club Disc Jockey (although on a semi break now).

I really need another hobby that I can do just for the sheer enjoyment.
ArtP,

Try kayaking and fishing... it's can be an interesting extension of your interest aquariums. I too have several aquariums, and find them very rewarding. My wife calls it a "god complex" the way I set them up and attend to the many "balances" that need to be maintained to keep things healthy.

But back to kayaking... and fishing. When I got a kayak I was *amazed* at how close to the water your are, and how silently you can drift over areas of a pond or stream, and look down and see wild fish and amphibians right below you. Sort of like having your own MASSIVE aquarium. Of course if you like to *catch* fish, fishing from a kayak is similarly very different from fishing from the shore, or a power boat. It is a much more intimate experience... quiet, peaceful. It is cool watching a school of yellow perch swim by, or spying a 20" pickerel lurking at the edge of the lily pads waiting to pounce on something. Or drifting over a colony of Bluegills and their nests during spawning season.

I imagine it is a bit like scuba diving... yet without all the expensive equipment (aside from the kayak $200-$600), training, safety issues, and maintenance expenses. I would love to learn SCUBA some day, but for now the kayak is so much simpler and more accessible.

Cheers,

Jem
