Current opinions on Data Rescue 4?
#1
Eyeing this special from our gracious hosts:
Data Rescue 4

I'm running 10.9.5 on a MBP. Any thoughts (related to Data Rescue 4?)

It works great...but do you have a use for it? It isn't particularly useful except for recovering files. But it does do a great job of that.

No immediate need- thinking of it more like an insurance policy. Just operating on the "when" not "if" rule of HD failure. I do keep a current backup, but due to work travel, it isn't always handy. Thinking this could be a good thing to have on hand in my travel bag.

Insurance is exactly why I have it and have kept it up to date for years. I had to use it about 6 ears ago and not since, but it saved my bacon, and that is what counts. I have two other apps I treat the same way: Disk Warrior and Pacifist.

2.5" USB 3 hard drives are small, fast, and fit nice into your travel bag.

64GB usb sticks are also quite inexpensive these days and make great short-term backups.

When I travel, I also use Dropbox to backup my main files I've worked on - but need an Internet connection.

I used to carry the usb hard drive, but dumped it for the flash drive awhile back.
