Apple battery recall of its own (Lithium)
#21
"Apple, Dell, Hewlett-Packard, and Lenovo are scheduled to hold a summit meeting in San Jose, California to discuss manufacturing standards for lithium-ion batteries made for portable and handheld electronics. The decision follows reports of laptop batteries bursting into flame, ultimately resulting in a massive recall by Dell last week of 4.1 million notebook batteries. Both Dell and Sony on Monday admitted in a statement that a design flaw in certain lithium-ion batteries could potentially ignite or cause an explosion. The companies to hold the summit meeting are part of the OEM Critical Components Committee of the IPC-Association Connecting Electronics Industries. The organization boasts roughly 2,400 members involved in making, designing or using electronic components, according to the E-Commerce Times."

so there is a chance that both my G4 powerbook and the Dell Inspiron laptop will get a spanking new battery? Cool!

UPDATE: Aww, never mind! Neither laptop's battery is the recalled one. Oh, well.

My PB12 and battery qualify.

My iB is a G3 and out of the running.

Anyone know if Newer Tech replacements qualify? I bought one for my TiBook G4 and sent the original Apple battery back to Newer.

I'll assume not, unless someone knows otherwise.

"My iB is a G3 and out of the running."

Running the original battery that shipped with the iBook G3, or a replacement bought during the iBook G4 era?

That's my situation with my own iBook G3: bought a replacement that falls under the recall program. Supposedly the Apple site will accept an iBook G3 serial number along with an iBook G4 battery serial number, but the site's been too slammed again today for me to verify this.

I have a iBook G3 with a recently purchased battery. The battery is one of the ones listed in the recall. I filled out the online application for a replacement and it accepted the serial number from my iBook, as well as the battery.

I should get a new battery in "4 to 6 weeks."
