It may be the disks (Fuji). They seemed good at first but recently I've had three or four coasters from this particular spindle o' disks, all except the latest were burned by the other drive (DVR-106D).
Perhaps the cats threw the spindle on the floor when I wasn't looking.

Those Pioneer drives are known to be picky.
