Another cute town for walking around in the area is Solvang (65 miles south). It used to be like a Bavarian town in the middle of California.
Good Swedish Pancakes.
Tourists not so good.

Effin,
The Calendar Events is great. S/O will love the summer concerts for sure. Thanks!
Go To Top,
Yeah, I'll be doing it in my black undie. Thanks to Racer X's suggestion

Solvang, been there many times. Quit after a two week trip to Switzerland. I tell ya nothing like the real thing, i.e. Matterhorn, chocolate, cow bells, etc.
Filliam,
Thanks for the links. Will definitely check them out.

[quote spearmint]Window Shopping and nice small restaraunts? You want SLO. The downtown area is just cool. Coffee Shops you betcha. Right off the furthest North exits off 101 are some decent motels. I cannot remember the name but there is a bizarre motel with cool theme rooms more for couples.
It is such a great town. I used to do a lot of business there and grinned all the way down from SF. Ten miles from the Ocean. Good Luck!
You're talking about the Madonna Inn. A great place to stay. You'll never, ever forget it.

Sunset Drive In still there! Used to live next door and watch movies from the back yard.
Montana De Oro state park is an awesome place to spend some time. Great inland hiking trails + nice rocky coastline and big sand dunes for sliding (bring cardboard). Worked there a whole summer...
Pete's Pierside Cafe in Port San Luis...if it's still there....grab fish tacos. It's just a littl walk up joint at the end of the pier, but Pete has been serving fine tacos since about 1977 (used to be in Avila Beach pre-oil spill).
