How to transfer only one email account to a new iMac
#1
Greetings;

I just picked up a used 2012 iMac and this time I want to be very selective on what to transfer over from the old iMac to the new.

First off I am running Yosemite on both iMacs.

In the past I have always copied all my emails account over to the newest mac I was using by copying over the mail.plst in the library folder and something in the prefs folder which brought everthing over.

Now I just want one old email account. Can I just do a export? Will that take all my sent and received emails on that one pop account? copt it onto a flash drive and import from the new iMac.

I have not even launced the mail app on the new iMac.

My other account is gmail and I think it is Imap so I should just be able to log on from the new iMac and it should download?? I hope.

More questions later.

TIA

Matthew

Export each mailbox/folder that you want to keep to mbox. Can be done with a right-click (control-click) on the mailbox/folder in the list on the left side of your Mail window.

Use Mail's import command on each mbox folder that you copy to the other Mac. It'll come in as "on my Mac" mailboxes/folders.

A few steps.

You have to export/import every folder separately.

Did you set up the POP account with the correct incoming and outgoing server info in Mail on the second Mac?
