I'm not on the forum a lot these days (work & etc.) and sometimes I miss the post, and I don't always get notifications via email when I have a PM, but I've encountered, fought with, and in most cases defeated problems concerning CC and Subtitles (which are two different things) and playback on all Apple devices and just about every disc player on the market.
I'm one of the guys who bitched and fought for the better part of a decade to get the industry to up the standards of the old CC setup (which (basically put) needs an analog signal ("Line 21") to transmit; long story but interesting) so that the hearing impaired could enjoy the digital age. (Ditto re/the passing of a law requiring CC on streaming services such as Netflix.)
I don't know all the answers, but I can maybe tell you where the button is or if it will even work at all.
