Wow. Windows 10 Is A Complete Mess
#1
Had my first glancing blow with Win 10 today--helping a friend who "upgraded".

Do people actually use their PCs like this? Seems like another interface that is trying to be TV.

That is likely just the default interface. You can change it a lot if you want.

It's like give me vanilla version and I will "upgrade" what I want. Or give me options to what Windows 7/8used to be.

That tile default interface is on Xbox and Windows 8. It is a mess, a big silly mess.

At least with the AOL version, the text was larger so you could see where the box lends.

That's not what Windows 10 looks like. Windows 10 basically looks just like Windows 7. There's a side panel on the right that shows notifications and some quick settings, the start menu is back, but has small tiles to hit some functions.

The mess, in my opinion, comes from the division of settings into the new streamline settings and the classic settings. It's a little confusing sometimes.

Exactly. Unpin whatever Live Tiles you don't need in the Start menu, minimize the oversized Cortana/search bar in the taskbar, add whatever shortcuts you prefer on the desktop and/or taskbar and/or Start menu, and you're good to go. It really isn't that difficult if you spend, oh, ten minutes configuring things to your liking. I spend about the same amount of time configuring the dock, Finder options, and FinderPop on a new Mac.

Yep, call me a convert to at least the surface of Windows 10. It's been very stable on my Hackindoz.

Now, dig under the surface and you'll find all sorts of oddities, one of faves being dialogs straight out of XP....
