Does anyone have a recommendation for which company to use on the IRS free tax return site?

Are they all about the same or are there good ones and bad ones?

All about the same, even H&R and Taxcut offer free returns for the basic version.

most of the software companies make their money from state returns now -- which are never free

I started on one called EZtaxreturn or something like that. It's for my mom and it was the only one through the IRS that was free for people her age. I think the state was going to be $20. It beats H&R Block charging her $180 last year.

Unless your tax return is really complicated, why not mail it in? I don't trust the IRS site at all since they've been hacked so easily.
