Yes, that will work. You might also notice that your birds seem to be on a schedule. When I was caretaking the hot springs, the chickadees would sometimes land on me as I was filling the feeder. It was easy to get them to eat out of my hand; just let the feeder go empty, watch for them to show up, stand really still with birdseed in your hand, and have a little patience.
