Better Call Paul: US Congress to update food expiration dates
#1
http://www.latimes.com/business/lazarus/...story.html
""Most people think expiration dates tell you when food is spoiled or unsafe," said Dana Gunders, a senior scientist at the Natural Resources Defense Council. "In fact, what it usually tells you is the manufacturer's recommendation for when the food is at peak quality.""

I look for the freshest dates at the supermarket. I reach way to the back to get a carton of milk etc. There can easily be 5 to 7 days difference in the dates.

Good move. Clarifying the two (freshness vs spoilage) will eliminate one roadblock (real or perceived) in food donation.
