Helps in building muscle when you want to add protein but not all the other calories that come with getting protein from other sources.

For instance, you could eat more beans but that comes with a certain amount of carbohydrates. SO whey could provide you protein with less caloric intake.

Another example is milk. Milk has protein but also comes with fat and sugar. Whey is a derivative of milk without the fat and sugar.

So you can either use whey to supplement or you can use it as a way to feed your body protein as a meal replacement. Ever look at the nutrient profile of slimmest or other "weight loss shakes"? They are basically protein shakes of why and some vitamins. If you are taking whey and a multivitamin, it is cheaper than a weight loss shake.
