Actually, cat behavior specialist Sarah Ellis advises that the cat carrier be made a permanently available part of the cat's home territory, complete with blankets that can be scent-marked etc. That way, the cat will feel comfortable being transported because the carrier is part of home rather than some strange-smelling alien trap.

Seems obvious to me - that's why I thought it was a good idea to keep it out for her to investigate. FYI, my cat Toby was euthanized while in this cat box. It was easier on Toby to remove the top than to pull him out. Poor Toby...
But I suspect some would feel that a cat would pick up on the fact that someone died in this thing - nope. No super duper senses here... It's just another comfy place to nap.
Probably also a good idea to set her up in a room with lots of her favorite stuff to facilitate her acceptance of the new place.
