Any "Current Crop" Wireless Access Points that DEFINITELY pass AppleTalk?
#1
I have several Networked laser printers that ONLY speak AppleTalk, and many newer wireless access points do NOT pass AppleTalk packets...

I have in the past purchased several Buffalo Tech wireless 54g Routers (set to be access points) and they work great..
Unfortunately, that model is discontinued..

So..
Can anyone recommend a Wireless access point/router that will definitely pass AppleTalk?

Unfortunately, the few requests I've made of manufacturers have come back with either "we don't support MAC (sic)", or "What's AppleTalk?"... this is funny because one of them was D-Link and I know darn well a very recently discontinued model of their DOES pass AppleTalk....

Tips appreciated!

Doesn't help you now, but Asante is supposed to be getting back in the SOHO wireless game. They are big Mac supporters from way back in the day. I believe this month or next…

I believe that most of them do but nobody wants to verify it. I have an old laserwriter at home that always seemed to work over appletalk but like everyone else i can't verify it at the moment.

This is my personal testing experience with some D-Link devices, but you won't find any of this documented on the box or on their website.

The D-Link DI-524 has 4 HW revisions that I've seen (A, C, D, and E, no idea what happened to rev B ).

Rev C and Rev D will pass AppleTalk, but Rev A and Rev E will not.

So you have to go to a store and look at the box to determine the HW version. I would especially avoid Rev E which is the most recent, it takes about 60 seconds to boot, and they've screwed up the web interface to make it incompatible with most Mac browsers when trying to setup WEP. The only Mac browser that I could get to work with all of it's setup pages was IE on OS-9. Maybe they've come out with new firmware to fix it, but I returned the Rev E that I bought (but I have 2 Rev C and 2 Rev D). I bought Rev D at Fry's as recent as 6 months ago.

If you get a Rev C or D, update to the latest firmware, it fixed a lot of stability issues that I saw earlier.

The D-Link DI-624 Rev C will also pass AppleTalk (not sure what the current HW revs are for that model).

The D-Link DWL-2100AP Rev A also passes AppleTalk.
