[quote JoeM]Bill, my advice after being on statins for around 20 yrs and what most docs say to do is to try diet and exercise first before meds, say for 3 months with another test following. That being said, a lot has to do with age, weight, lifestyle and family history.

Your number can vary by 20% +/- from one test to the next, even if you had 2 tests in the same day that's possible. That's why you need to be monitored over time and a history needs to be developed.

Supposedly, the kind of muscle pain you'll feel, if it comes from the drug is VERY pronounced but again, everyone is different. I have had a lot of pain over the years but considering I fought and trained for 10 years, had a pretty nasty car accident and quite a few dings I couldn't say pain is due to the drug. You don't say your number but if you are 230+ you need to really do something. Also you need to check the HDL and LDL levels.

I would speak more with your doc. Lipitor has been pretty ssafe for most.
My Good Cholestrol is Too Low and My Bad Cholestrol is Too High... I will call the office tomorrow and see if I can write down everything. Also, I'm going to see if I can try the diet and excersise for another 3 months seeing I haven't done much for the last 8 months being very stressfull.

Crestor has been very good for me. When I moved to St Augustine I had to find a new doctor and he was not fond of Crestor. After looking at my blood work over several months he has kept me on Crestor. I went from the 280+ down to current level of 165. Good change in HDL vs LDL and the triglycerides are in the proper range as well.

I have been on Crestor since 2004 and can report no problems or pains.

YMMV

Both of my older brothers are now on Crestor. The web has had conflicting stories on it's safety. I asked my new doc about it and it's safety and his reply was that it was a more powerful drug and would provide better results. He said that more powerful drugs sometimes can lead to more risks.

Good to know you have had success with it since 04. I am trying to decide between the Lipitor/ Twin Lab combo (don't know if I will be able to tolerate the Zetia but my diet is very good so I don't know if it really is necessary for me) and Crestor without any Niacin.

I haven't found any pros/cons RE Twin Lab Niacin online as it applied to my high dosage. I'm thinking I may contact Twin Lab.

One other thing to add . . . I take it in the morning. Initially, I was never told to take it at night so I just made it a point to take it first thing in the morning so I wouldn't forget. Since I have had such good results and no problems I have not changed when I take it.

Try the niacin--the flush-free, non-timerelease stuff, as per my post above. Also see:
