I washed a load of dishes in my dishwasher yesterday just like I always do. When the dishwasher cycle ended, eveything was covered in a nasty, grey-white film. I ran the dishwasher 3 times, all to no avail. Now I have to empty the entire thing and wash all the dishes by hand.
Does anyone know what causes this? How can I get the film off of my dishes or at least keep it from coming back?

Maybe add some more JETDRY? Maybe it's too full?

Cascade is the only thing we use in our Kitchenaid. The cheap off brand stuff leaves film on our dishes.

try using vinegar to get rid of it.
I live in the land of really hard water & sometimes I will get such a film. I ran some vinegar through the dishwasher with a load of filmy dishes & it cleared it right up!
Then I re-washed them with Cascade (which I always use)

Where do you get your water? If it's municipal, they may have switched supplies on you. Are you seeing hard water deposits on your faucets, or in your bath/shower?
The harder your water, the more phosphorus you need in your detergent -- I'd be remiss if I didn't point out there's an argument to be made in favor of phosphorus free, though -- and every box of detergent lists the percentage of it on the label somewhere. Last time I checked, Electrasol was the highest, but it's these weird little bricks.
If it doesn't get better, you may have to think about getting a water softener.

The washer is draining, right ?
That's probably a real dumb question, but I'm sure we all know someone who wouldn't look under the bottom rack.

I am using Cascade with JetDry. Yes, my dishwasher is draining. White vinegar seems to solve many household problems...I will try it.

If the vinegar doesn't work, try switching to another brand for one box--this has solved a similar problem for us.

Maybe Galdalf the Grey / White could help you out?
