Hard drive a churnin'
#1
occasionally my Mini's hard drive (Tiger, 1GB RAM) starts churning and working really hard. most times it's with an old OS9 app that i assume is busting its chops.

lately, its started happening in other programs. it just happened with Sea Monkey (browser) when i accessed SciFi.com. i opened Activity Monitor and saw that SM was hogging 68% of CPU power. when i closed the SciFi window, the hard drive settled down and SM's usage went down to 6%.

is this normal? is there some software i perhaps don't have up to date that causes this?

how full is the drive?

have you thought about booting from an external (much larger) drive?

the drive is 47% full. i do not have another drive. how would getting a second drive improve this problem?

An externl Firewire drive can be much faster than the internal drive.
