Experiences as a seller on Etsy?
#1
My sister-in-law needs to generate a little extra income. She has a huge stash of vintage clothing she's collected and needs to move, now that her husband has passed away.

If you've sold on Etsy, how was it for you? How does it compare to ebay?

I have a shop on etsy for my art. It's slow going for me (maybe because my art sucks?). It helps to promote via Instagram, Facebook, etc. Etsy has a new thing called Pattern - which basically makes your shop look like it's own site - you can buy or bring your own domain.

Compared to eBay, etsy's fees are less but you might get things sold faster on eBay.

Etsy is generally a lot more polite than ebay. Far lower fees and everything is fairly straight forward in that regard. Shipping is still more complicated than it needs to be.

Buyers can still choose to be idiots though. Make sure photos are VERY illustrative. The first sentence on my music boxes states custom orders must contact me first, still get people who don't. It's a major inconvenience for me.

If she has a lot, it might be a lot easier to take the stuff to a vintage consignment store (assuming there is one nearby).

From a buyer's perspective (you need to see what BUYERS say). I've bought on both and they seem about the same, but it seems like more personal service on Etsy. All we buyers want is item correctly represented, fair price (we know the prices on items), easy payment method, Apple Pay (?), fast shipping, and a good return policy like LL Bean for example.
