Unless you desperately need it you could wait until Vista comes out. I think its slated for early 2009 but I haven't really kept up on it. You could always download Vista RC 1, I run it under parralels when I need to do something in XP. In other words I installed it and that's about as far as it went.

RC2 is available now. fyi
What I would do, instead of $83...(if the vendor, which some are, offering) is purchase a slim-downed Dell, or the like, with XP pre-installed...and then you'll receive a free upgrade to Vista later. XP and Vista, plus a computer for not-too-much-more money.

Well Vista RC1 and RC2 are both time "bomb" limited, they will stop working sometime after MS ships Vista. Or work in a crippled fashion.
And most people who have an intel based Mac don't need another computer, cheap or not. And where did you read that Vista will be a free upgrade to XP? That's news to me! $83 is cheap for XP Pro, and I've bought from Whitebox before without any problems. T/

This isn't where I heard about the free upgrade offer, but here's one link.
http://www.gizmodo.com/gadgets/windows/f...195047.php If you Google "Windows free upgrade", or something close, the reports will pop up in several places. |
