The commission wouldn't have had legal authority to do anything anyway. It was always intended to be a vehicle to provide a supposedly unbiased investigation that would provide the justification to do what Trump (and probably most Republicans) wanted to do repress Democratic voters. Now they'll just go ahead and do what they wanted anyway without the flimsy pretext that the commission was going to provide.
