Son's MBP went out, won't charge, SMC reset doesn't work.

Hi guys,

A few months ago I got my son a mid-2012 MBP, same as mine (actually a little better, his is an I7 model). It was flawless until minutes ago when it just went dead.

I was charging mine and since it was at 95% I pulled the cord off and put it on his. OOPS...no green light. No light of any kind. I figure that's not good.

I tried the SMC reset. Didn't work.

That's about as far as my knowledge goes on power issues. The battery is in decent shape and holds a reasonable charge.

I can take it to a repair shop tomorrow, but I'm hoping you might have a suggestion or two to try before that. All I can find is the power reset.

Thanks for any help.

On my 2010 and 2012 13" MBP it is easy to disconnect the battery once you take the bottom off.

It will run w/o a battery.

You can do the heavy reset with power button for 10 secs (with or without the battery iirc).

Yeah, Id take the bottom off and disconnect the battery, then see if it starts up.
