My daughter is starting 7th grade this year and this is one of the requirements. I'll get one but I figured I'd ask here first to see if anyone had a gently used one they'd be willing to part with for a smaller amount of $$$.

Hate that schools do not allow kids to us the iOS/Android app that mimics the TI-83. I get why, sure, but it would save so many parents some start-of-year sticker shock.

No kidding, my college kid needed a Ti-Nspire in high school. He used it to help him pass Calculus and physics AP exams for college credit.

We called a friend who has two daughters in high school and college and they STILL use theirs! So I guess I should look at it as a long term investment.

Yes, my son uses the Ti-Nspire in college. My youngest uses blue Ti Nspire with interchangeable keypads. That was the cheapest option available. I know he is going to want a regular black Ti-Nspire like his brother has. It was just too much for his basic needs. My Older son had a hand me down Ti-84/83 before I got him the Nspire . Then he lost it. So younger brother got a blue one.
Edit -the blue gray Ti Nspire has ability to Mimic a Ti-84 with proper keypad

Cheating, plus most schools ban cellphones in the classroom. And having every kid have the same thing that is tried and true makes teaching it a lot easier especially when the instructions in the text book are specific to that model calculator.
Like I said; I get why. It's just a shame there can't be some kind of detente regarding an overpriced piece of technology (useful & required that it is) and the needs of a student & the abilities of a family to provide.
