$300 for a Nintendo Switch?
#1
I got my younger son an X-Box for $170. Not sure who posted the deal here a few months ago, but THANK YOU!

Older son wants a Nintendo Switch. I see them for $300 on Amazon. I can afford that, no issue, but I was hoping for a simialr deal like that on X-Box. Am I missing something? will check best buy and newegg, probably not many other options in this area. OK, target and walmart.

Since expired. $276 Slick deals from RaKuten and Newegg. That’s the best you’ll find till around Black Friday. Unless you go used/refurb on eBay.

Does he need/want the TV functionality? If not, the Switch Lite (handheld only) comes out on September 20th for $200 MSRP

$300 is a lot for a console system that’s not “best” by several measures.

But so what? My kids have loved the Wii, U and for the last year or more, Switch. It’s all about the [one or three] games, for them. My oldest spent about a year, on and off, making his way through Zelda: Breath of the Wild. I appreciated very much the lack of droning noise and repetitive “peppy” music in that title. They have a couple of the expected Mario titles of course.

....well, son of a switch....that is a lot of money.......IMHO not worth it....if you have to get it, chances are you won't get much of discount for something so 'popular'....bite the bullet.....or skip it.....

It's a good system; both portable and console, per se (hence the name, "Switch"). I'll also do an aside, here, pointing out Nintendo's paradigm shift by not going with proprietary this-or-that; e.g., it charges via USB-C cable rather than a "you can only charge it via official Nintentdo™ ChargeBuddy ($99)" situation.

The Lite is a good option, but will be missing some key features (including the lack of ability to hook up to a TV/display). And though it will play the majority of Switch games, it won't play games that don't support handheld mode, like Super Mario Party. There's no 3D rumble in the Lite. And there's a size difference as well (it's more akin to a 3DS than the full Switch). Its durability vs the main system remains to be seen.

Forbes, of all places, has a good rundown: https://www.forbes.com/sites/davidthier/...bd703d3cf9

My son has a Switch; easily his favorite console/gamer. He uses it primarily in "go" mode (JoyCons attached to the screen and portable, even when he's not). The recent (?) release of Super Smash Bros. solidified its place as go-to gaming console.

Nintendo has a hit on their hands with the Switch, which is why you won't likely see a general price reduction anytime soon. I would expect some Black Friday deals as we head into shopping season.

Not sure I'd do the Lite. IMO one of the best features of the full setup is the ability to play on either the big screen or on the handheld piece so that the TV isn't monopolized.

Ditto this. My son's come to the living room (65" TV) and hooked up quickly via HDMI (again: Nintendo broke paradigm and went with a standard connector) and played a few rounds of Smash Bros. on it to show me a few new characters. He docks it up in his room (to his regular TV) for gaming & charging. And if he's got it downstairs or in the car, it's an easy charging hookup via USB-C. And if it moved regularly between the two, I'd pick up an extra Dock for it.

It really is a good & well thought-out system.
