GM recalls over 3.4M pickups, SUVs to fix brake problem

.....Under pressure from the federal government, General Motors is recalling more than 3.4 million big pickup trucks and SUVs in the U.S to fix a brake problem.

The recall covers the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra 1500, 2500 and 3500 pickups from the 2014 through 2018 model years. Also included are the Cadillac Escalade from 2015 to 2017, and the GMC Yukon and Chevy Suburban and Tahoe from 2015 through 2018.

GM says a pump in the power-assist brakes can put out less vacuum power than needed, increasing stopping distance and the risk of a crash.

The recall comes after the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration began investigating in November of last year.

Dealers will recalibrate the electronic brake control module. Owners were to be notified starting Sept. 6.

It was not immediately clear on Wednesday how many injuries or crashes are linked to the issue. However, GM said it could impact braking in "rare circumstances," according to Reuters.

brake.....fast..............?!

Plus all the beer and meat in coolers, plus the grill, charcoal / propane and of course the obligatory flags flying from the bed ... And maybe a few kids and big dawgs.

GM's trip down the slippery slope was well underway long before her tenure. As one automotive reporter put it after the demise of Oldsmobile in 1999 "If you can't make money selling a quarter of a million vehicles a year that are built almost entirely of shared components, something is seriously wrong with the corporation as a whole".

I can with 4 way manual drums and a 650 HP Big Block. Modern drivers need to man up.

Don't you mean Mexican muscle? Nearly all if not all GM 1500 crewcabs, most likely their biggest selling truck, are built in Silao, Mexico.

Made in Mexico? These popular U.S. vehicles are produced south of the border

Wasn't the Baja California (MX) Toyota plant the one where all the
'rusting' trucks came from?

The VW plant in Puebla, Mexico is their second largest. It gets regular awards
for the workmanship and workplace environment. VW also runs an internship for
students, employees make 3X the earnings of the average skilled Mexican worker.

Most US model Jeeps are now Mexican made!
