Ok... I gave Comcast a chance... who else could I get cheap cell service from?

Consumer Cellular advertises an AARP discount with plans starting ~ $15 a month. A couple of years ago, I jumped on the T-Mobile Senior Plan; TWO phones with UNLIMITED Talk, Text and Data as well as UNLIMITED Tethering at 3G speeds. I've had no problems with T-Mobile vs LOTS of problems with AT&T, Sprint and Verizon.

Boom mobile is good. Won't take you 9 calls to get service.

I'm with Xfinity now, but was with Boom previously. No complaints over the course of several years, other than that Boom was slightly more expensive for what I was using than Xfinity is for me now. Great customer support, small-ish company.

if she does not use data, only voice/text, the Comcast bill will be $0. Just about $1.xx in taxes and fees that you just cannot avoid.

Just make sure you turn ALL data off. IN fact, they no longer gove you 100 MB free so maybe even on the lowest plan (1 GB) they still charge you $12 even if you used 0 bytes, that I do not know.

the lowest plan is $12/mo
My last bill was $1.39 --- Only taxes and regulatory fees.

Trying to get cheap cell service for mom. Comcast says, 'hey, got an extra phone? Just give us a call and you can set it up for out cheap mobile service EASY!!'

After nine calls they tell me that they want it needs to be billed separately even though it will be a part of the existing account. So I have to call mom AGAIN and get more info, but I'm done.

What other options do I have for cheap, not frequently used cell service (no data will be used - just phone).

Comcasts' $12/mo plan was perfect, but I HATE THEM!!!

The goal is voice activated calling. The Jitterbug is too complicated for mom. We have an unlocked iphone 6 - just need some service.

it is so simple. You can do it online. Or walk into a store. The only think that bother me is that for the first 3 phones, I did NOT give them a SSN last year, but this time for the 4th line the needed a SSN to verify ID. They did NOT run a credit check. I didn't have time to argue with them so I gave in and typed in my SSN.

Just give Comcast a try, don't give up so easily, And yes, the mobile bill is separate from the cable bill.
I gave them a try. 9 phone calls later, it still isn't done. The web pages says, enter the ID number and if it's compatible, call us and we'll send you a sim card. It's NOT that simple.
Is your iPhone 6 compatible with Verizon? That may be the issue.

Do you have the "Generation 1" plan that gives you 100 MB free data? I had that one, but it was not possible to upgrade to the new less expensive data plans. There is was $12/ GB no matter what you used (afer the first free 100 MB).

The "Gen 2" plans removed the free 100 MB data but they offer $1/GB, or $30/3 GB and $60/10 GB. So for 10 GB you pay only $6/GB, half of the price on the old plan. I switched and now we end up up with 4 GB in 20 days, probably 6-8 by the end of the month, which works for us.

Here's a good service comparison site. We're using SimpleMobile at the moment ($75 unlimited for two phones with 10GB each tethering per month). but I check it more-of-less monthly to see if there's a better deal out there.
