Gaiters
#21
Michael,

Nope. The "buff" as shown in the video in my post is also called a gaiter. They aren't the same as a balaclava. There are a zillion "buffs" advertised as gaiters all over the place. You can use them on your ankles, if you want, though they are not intended for that part of your body. That brings me back to the early '80s when leg warmers were a fad. Ugh!

I think technically they're "Neck" gaiters.

"Gaiters" per se are items worn over the ankles.

Deus,

It falls within the same category. They're both gaiters. If I see one on someone's neck and face, I'll call it a gaiter. If I see one attached to someone's ankle, I'll call it a gaiter. Separating them that far is unnecessarily doofy.

But if someone just said to you "Great sale on gaiters at REI."... :S
Enough info?

Deus,

Yes. I'd assume it's a gaiter for your neck because they are very common to see at place like REI. FYI, the first items listed by REI when you search for "gaiter" is the type for one's neck:

Same goes for a slew of online shops.

Got too much free time now, what with COVID-19...

Actually, "Gaiters" shows up first on the list when searched.

And they carry more "leg" gaiters than "neck" (and even have an accompanying article about leg gaiters).

Deus,

And they’re still calling them all gaiters as a general category, which was my point from the beginning.
