For personal reasons, I've decided to blog. So I bought server space from Godaddy:
100 GB of space, 1000GB of bandwith per month, 1000 email accounts (LOL) and a domain name for 2 years for $130. (Apple is nuts, for 4 GB of storage and 250GB of bandwith a month, they want $99 for 1 year).
I decided to go with iBlog2 (beta). Ran into a little issue right off the bat (okay, here is where the dragging and dropping of web pages into your .Mac sites folder is so easy and maybe Apple isn't as nuts as I thought:-) ) Using Fetch, Transmit, or even the built in FTP program in Nvu, I could instantly upload files to my server.
BUT, iBlog's built in FTP program asks you "way" more things than do the other FTP programs. For the life of me, I couldn't make it upload. Finally, where it asked for the server name, I replaced it with my website address and it worked. Definitely something that needs to be fixed in the beta or made clearer.
Now that that bump in the road is over with, I just finished configuring the outgoing smtp server settings(Mail.app now sends from my domain) and finally got my domain's outgoing smtp mail to work. So now my website has an official email address.
I've created my banner in Photostudio and now need to enable comments and get some of the other house keeping things done, like organizing the columns and creating a page of ethics (for instance, I will retain the right to correct grammar and spelling, but will not change the context of any post....).
