Check SpaceX.com to see if they offer Starlink service. $500 down for equipment, $100/mo for 20-150Mbps down, 5-10Mbps up, short latency (20-40ms). My daughter and son-in-law have Starlink on their farm in rural Nova Scotia (north of Halifax). Much better reliability and throughput compared with DSL (1-5Mbps down, 0.5Mbps up, latency 40-100ms) that was their only prior option.

Yes, I've read about it and feel it may be my only option if I get too rural.
Compared to any other option for "too rural" areas, Starlink is a freakin' DREAM... The rollout of service is excruciatingly slow right now, but will improve. The service itself is outstanding.

DSL option? We’re about 1000 ft or so away from being able to use a Comcast option, however the telco co-op now runs fiber to the pole. It’s $80 /mo for 100Mbps service, or the same amount if we wanted a landline that could ONLY receive calls and 30Mbps.

We’d happily stay with 30Mbps for say, $50 a month but discounts aren’t what they offer, only increased speed.

MULTI-CAT HOUSEHOLD

(ok, so maybe it's really three words)

I literally LOL'd at that one.... "Then 7 it is".

I am feeding a new Feral cat (along with 2 others that have been around for years) that popped up this summer and now that it is getting colder here in Michigan I am getting concerned. This one knows my work schedule and is usually setting near my porch within the 3 hour window when I arrive home.

Problem is this one is super friendly.

The two original ferals are skittish and essentially "wild". They see me, stay a lawn distance away from the food bowl on the side of the driveway. wait until I go into the house and then run and check the food bowl. If i feed them and step back out of the house - they retreat to nearby safety.

This new friendly one. comes to my vehicle, meowing when I open the car door. Will hop on the hood and look at me if I take too long opening the door. Will follow me on the front porch and act like he wants to follow me into the house.

I already "own" a cat that i was supposed to "foster" for a short period time that i got "stuck with" about 6 years ago.

I'm afraid that when we really really cold nights (teens or below) here in Michigan, I will feel bad and let him in.

Cat people help me: I wonder if I put a cat bed, food and water in the foyer (4ft x5ft maybe) and let him sleep there overnight would it stress him out? Would he go back out in the morning?

I also think "my" girl may try and fight him. I have seen/heard the friendly cat fight a new stays that may come into the yard on 2 occasions.

I don't want to be like the pic above - lol

Congratulations, you have now been hired as staff by Cat, Inc. ... Job responsibilities include: opening up cans of cat food, cleaning up after cat does its business, and occasional head scratches and rubs.

But seriously, it sounds like the friendly cat has adopted you as its human, so you might as well see if said cat would get along with your girl.

And as for the photo I posted, I'm not really one to talk, since there's also this...
