Expiration date, 8/12/22 ... according to stilltasty, it has to be used within two days of purchase, which I'm pretty sure it's well beyond that... it doesn't "look" bad, and has been refrigerated the whole time, but... I'm not sure I want to trust it.

If it has been kept cold, it is probably all right.
Now back to me: since it has been kept refrigerated, it is likely okay. HOWEVER, I would open it and drop it into a bowl, and then (with clean hands, of course) start poking around. Answer a few questions:
Look at it: if it looks off, toss it.
Smell it: if it smells off, toss it.
Feel it: if it feels slimy, toss it. You know what I mean here. Pretend that you are making a burger patty.
Cook it: if it smells wrong while cooking it, toss it.
If you decide to use it, cook it thoroughly. Ground meats have a more limited shelf life. If it still bothers you in any way, or you have a non-cast iron stomach, throw it out. I'd rather toss something out (even if it was somewhat expensive) than have to suffer through food poisoning.

FWIW, I find that even ground chicken that is supposed to be fresh can start to smell off. I grind all of my chicken from thighs, the day I buy the chicken, and use it as quickly as possible. However, I do think smell is the key indicator here; chicken starts to smell off very quickly after processing.

‘ Ground ‘ is what tipped the scales for me.
So many more possible points of contamination.

That wasn't an "expiration date" that was a "sell by" date.. which means you have as long as two WEEKS after that date when it's still perfectly good.
Check for sliminess, or odor... If neither are present, eat it.
Now that my last sentence has set up for a number of jokes - have at it!
