F/U: 2407 --> U2723; and of course…

My U2723 purchase last Thursday qualified for expedited shipping with expected delivery of last Saturday, so I was hitting refresh on the tracking page Friday a bit too compulsively. When the U2723 got within 150 miles Friday night, the color problems on the 2407 decided to fix itself and the 2407 has run perfectly ever since. I still really like that monitor…

I didn't get around to the U2723 until yesterday. (View images in new tab to see larger version.)

The lower left late 2014 iMac blew my mind when I found that it would drive all three screens.

One line of the U2723 system report indicates "UI Looks like: 1920 x 1080 @ 60 Hz", hmmmm…

I was initially disappointed to find that this 4K monitor offered no more real estate than a Full HD 1920 x 1080 monitor. Side by side with the 5K iMac, I started noticing that the type on the 4K was a little bigger than the 5K and, well, so much easier to read. The more I use the U2723, I realize how easy on the eyes it is physically. I forgot that the iMac doubles up on pixels which makes it not really 2880 pixels tall but 1440 to the eye. The U2723 "Full HD" is razor sharp, my initial misgivings are long gone.

The hub built into the U2723 is pretty sweet. It takes the USB-C input from my MBP16 and looks great. Both Display Port and USB-C carry audio, so I've plugged the speakers into the monitor. I've got an unboxed corded Apple aluminum keyboard, I only need a corded mouse (or RF mouse with dongle to plug into the keyboard) to enable the KVM switching between the iMac and MBP.

Any mouse recommendations?

Investigating showed that I got my Dell 2105 in late 2005. I got the 2407 in January 2007, around $650 out the door. Used those two together for a long time. Loaned the 2105 to a friend and she wore it out. The 2407 has chugged along for 15 years now, what a trooper. The U2723 with mDP to DP cable was just a couple coffees above $600; if I get the same mileage, it will be a bargain.

Thanks to everyone that pushed me in this direction!

P.S. Yes, those are my bronzed baby shoes on the lamp on the top shelf.
