iTunes seems to sometimes display stored movie titles based on criteria other than filename --- this is either a pain in the butt or a good idea, depending on your point of view. My guess is so that you never see the filename extension from the iTunes browser.
Geek that I am, I had saved all the "Get a Mac" ads from Apple's website to my desktop. That in and of itself wasn't intuitive at first. If you let the ad play through, it disappears when done. The key is to let it load completely (you can pause the ad) and then save it. Of course this is with QTPro. Old news I'm sure.
Anyway, I dragged them all into iTunes. When looking at them in iTunes, most all had a title of "Apple - Get a Mac" even though I'd painstakingly altered each filename to match the name of the ad prior to importing. I couldn't rename them from within iTunes.
Here's the fix:
1) Select the movie in iTunes, right-click, choose Show in Finder. Your movie file is highlighted.
2) Right-click, Open with ... Quicktime Player (ya gotta have Pro)
3) Cmd-J (Window menu/Show Movie Properties)
4) It'll have a Title track --- go down in the Annotations tab, NOT up at the top. Double-click on the movie's name and make your edit. You MUST click away or hit Return; closing the window while the text is still selected won't prompt to save anything.
Don't simply delete the Title track in hopes of iTunes then picking up the filename --- in my experience it doesn't work here.
5) Close the Movie Properties window.
6) Close/save the movie window.
Doing so will also rename the filename in the Finder (!) but like I said, renaming the filename yourself in the Finder won't work. Takes a while for this to update. iTunes won't update with the new name right away either, in fact you'll probably need to re-launch it to see it.
