I replaced the seat washer but the faucet still drips.

I swear every faucet in my house drips and it started to drive me crazy. The fixtures are probably at least 40 years old. I'd like to replace them but I'd also like to do it when renovating the bathrooms which isn't going to happen for a bit.

While I initially had trouble contacting the Chicago Faucet Shoppe they were quick to reply to me yesterday. They very helpfully provided links to the replacement parts. Well, apparently 2.5 years ago I had ordered some replacement parts and had completely forgot about them. Luckily I was smart enough to keep them near where they were needed.

The seat washer is replaced but the faucet still drips. This has me wondering about what the role is of every damn part of the cartridge. Would a whole new cartridge help?

A new cartridge will probably help, wear on the internal parts does occur and cause drips. Or a small piece of sediment may be present and keeping the cartridge from fully reaching the closed position.

sounds like the cartridge needs a vinegar bath.

That is for smoothing the seat in older style, non-cartridge valves. Those have the seat as part of the valve body, and it can be smoothed. Valves with cartridges use a replaceable seat that has an o-ring surface for the bottom of the cartridge to seal against.

An hour long vinegar bath knocked off a fair amount of sediment - its definitely turns smoother now. However, the drip is still there. It could take a bath in the ultrasonic cleaner or an overnight dunk in vinegar.

Or in something stronger like CLR.

O rings don't last forever.
After a weekend of torch-er removing escutcheons on the kitchen sink faucet, I got them off and replaced the leaky hot.
$52 for a fkn hansgrohe (made made by hans in the old country) cartridge.
Wish I knew the size and material of the O ring.
