Target's response:
https://corporate.target.com/press/relea...Collection

For more than a decade, Target has offered an assortment of products aimed at celebrating Pride Month. Since introducing this year's collection, we've experienced threats impacting our team members' sense of safety and well-being while at work. Given these volatile circumstances, we are making adjustments to our plans, including removing items that have been at the center of the most significant confrontational behavior. Our focus now is on moving forward with our continuing commitment to the LGBTQIA+ community and standing with them as we celebrate Pride Month and throughout the year.

In the first place, this was an exercise of “Rainbow Capitalism,” at best a tepid show of support, but really just commercial exploitation.

Second, removing your "Pride Month" displays is not showing "continuing commitment to the LGBTQIA+ community and standing with them."

Third, a statement from the governor of California:
https://thehill.com/homenews/4018653-new...om-stores/

“CEO of Target Brian Cornell selling out the LGBTQ+ community to extremists is a real profile in courage. This isn’t just a couple stores in the South. There is a systematic attack on the gay community happening across the country,” Newsom wrote in a tweet Tuesday night.

“Wake up America. This doesn’t stop here. You’re black? You’re Asian? You’re Jewish? You’re a woman? You’re next,” the California governor continued.

Yep. You don't roll over and let the Nazis do whatever they want and TAKE whatever they want, because what they want is your subjugation followed by extermination and they'll take both in a heartbeat.

So much for Twitter cracking down on hate speech.

Inviting and coddling hate speech? Yeah. Extremists know an ally when they see one. Hate speech is way up since Elon took over.

Disappointed in Target. They should not cave to these haters.

Geeze, Gavin (Gavin Newsom, the governor of California), tells us how you really feel.

But I like Newsome calling him out in now uncertain terms.

It's bad enough, horrific actually, the MAGARight is using legislature to weaponize hate and fear, but for a company to roll over, voluntarily, is how we lose.

Target is no doubt afraid to lose profit in Red territory.

If Target were to pull up stakes in unfriendly (Red) areas, as other businesses have done over losses from theft, it's the local communities that suffer.

But MAGARabids don't seem to care.

Part of me wishes that Target would become completely regional, like so many other business.

But that would be a cause of a lot of other problems for people who don't necessarily deserve it.

Target and/or the reds were clever enough to poke the mass shooting fear with the “threats impacting our team members’ sense of safety and well-being while at work” angle.

I’m sure their legal department must be thrilled the issue of ‘who’s liable if we’re warned that if Item X isn’t removed there could be a danger of violence, and someone actually is injured if we don’t remove Item X’, has been put on the table.
