Ranty Rant Rant (FEDEX)

OMG FEDEX Ground Sucks! I ordered a new monitor last week and it had just been sitting on the delivery truck for days while the driver sits at the donut shop!

Delivery attempted my ass! It's Ohio in the winter, sometimes there is snow on the ground and it gets COLD. Apparently for Fedex drivers, this means don't even try to deliver the package. On the two days they say they "ATTEMPTED" to deliver the package and couldn't, I made it to work and back, as did my wife and neighbors, the postman came and UPS came both days all without any problem. It just chaps my ass that FEDEX will use any possible excuse to get out of even trying to deliver.

Sorry, had to rant.

Arch,

Oy. I suspect you may have gotten the storm on Tuesday that nailed NY yesterday. Not a lot of snow but tons of freezing rain and ice, all of which made for dangerous driving. That you could get to work and back is irrelevent. Same goes for other drivers. If Fedex Ground felt it was better to delay the delivery then that's their decision. You don't have to agree with it but at least give them a bit of a break. It isn't like it was delayed on a beautiful sunny day.

What kind of service was purchased for shipping? Ground?

If so, I'd be willing to bet that they are still well within the delivery period for the priority of the shipment.

Is it an LCD monitor? Maybe you should thank them because it's not sitting out on a truck all day for delivery, freezing the panel. Even if it says it's ON the truck, doesn't mean that the truck is outside.

Wouldn't surprise me if they were short on drivers, business deliveries would have priority over home delivery.

Delivery attempted probably means , in this case, the driver actually did go out, but only got a per centage of his route done.

I will chip in with my Fedex problem. They were supposed to deliever a load of tile for the home I am building. I did not hire them, the tile store did that. They drove the load to my building site, but then said that they couldn't offload the tile because the driver wasn't comfortable with the driveway. Mind you, this is the same driveway that multiple concrete truckes, cranes, large flat-bed trucks with extra-long loads of joists and glu-lam beams have all used to deliever supplies. Also, after this refusal to deliever and talking it over with Fedex, they stated that they could try to re-deliever the tile with a more "experienced" driver, but if he couldn't complete the delievery, they would charge us another $65 for the failed attempt. So, $220 for the initial delievery charge which has been a failure to date, subcontractors which have been delayed because of lack of tile and no certainty to date of just how I am going to actually get my tile.

Great service, meh!

FedEx Ground is the remains of RPS Roadway...

Trained monkeys, all of them.

Bottom of my driveway... UPS, numerous concrete trucks, propane trucks, 5 yard gravel trucks, long RV"s... NONE of them have ever had the least problem driving UP the driveway, turning around, and driving DOWN.

FedEx Ground tries to BACK Up the driveway.. every damn time.. not just ONE driver.
TWICE they've driven ACROSS the road and gotten stuck in the drainage ditch... blocking the road completely until the tow truck arrived.

I won't even go into the last box I got from them... sopping wet, torn to shreds, and the contents leaking out and with a TIRE TREAD MARK on it. Contents only survived because they were steel machine tool parts.

I take it back... Monkeys would do a better job than FedEx Ground.

All that being said; FedEx ("Air" or "Classic" or whatever) has always been fantastic! Up to calling me and delivering to me at WORK when they knew I wasn't home...
When I think of the BEST shipping service I've ever received, I think "FedEx".
WHen I think of the WORST shipping service I've ever received, I think "FedEx Ground".

As Paul F indicated, FedEx Ground and FedEx (Air) are two different businesses run under the umbrella of a single parent company. FedEx Ground was once RPS, a minor player in the package shipping industry, before it was acquired by FedEx in the late '90s in a move to outright buy ground shipping capabilities instead of developing them from the ground up -- all in the name of enabling them to open another front in the ongoing war against UPS.

FedEx Ground employs independent contractors as drivers: http://www.braunconsulting.com/bcg/newsl...20041.html. As a result, FedEx Ground drivers may not have as much of a vested interest in maintaining a high level of respect for the brand as they would if they were employees of the company.

I ship about 4-8 packages via FedEx Ground per month. In the last 5 years they lost one
package and there has been only one complaint from customers about damages.
UPS, now that's a different story, I won't even touch them.

I use fedex ground as much as possible. Never had one problem. They get the packages to the destinations faster than USPS and I've not had one package damaged.

Also, one of the local drivers gave me his cell number and I call him to come by the house to pick up the packages. He even came by on his day off after I had called to remind him that my package hadn't been picked up. 'NOW THAT'S WHAT I CALL SERVICE"

All the drivers have been extremely helpful.

Sorry to hear of others problems.
